Just as I was starting this blog I received an email from an adult student telling me that a few words I had said in a casual conversation with her kept her from making a big mistake. I vaguely remember the conversation. It occurred to me that many times we say things in passing or informally that others take very seriously even though we may not remember saying them.
As individuals start on their road to independence and demonstrate more maturity, people begin to place more value in their comments and opinions. The responsibility for choosing words carefully and explaining yourself fully becomes much more important as one travels down the road to independence.
